Course Description:
This
three-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to use Microsoft
Office Project Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Project
Professional 2007 to initiate, plan, execute, monitor,
control, and close enterprise programs (aligning with Project Management Institute best
practices). The course also provides students with the
knowledge and skills to customize and manage the Microsoft
Office Project Server 2007 enterprise project management
(EPM) environment.
Courseware and Certification:
This course uses Microsoft Official
Curriculum ("MOC") courseware and prepares students for the
Microsoft exam
70-634 PRO: Microsoft Office Project Server 2007, Managing Projects and Programs
which counts as credit toward the Microsoft certification
Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Enterprise Project Management with Microsoft Office Project Server 2007.
This is the third course in the Microsoft Office Project 2007 Official Curriculum series.
PM Resource Group is
also an authorized Prometric Testing Center. So students may take the 70-634 exam immediately following the
class. There is an additional $125 exam fee.

or portfolios in an EPM environment
- Project Managers, Program Managers, members of the PMO, and other stakeholders participating in the deployment or refinement of
an EPM solution
- Individuals who want to take exam 70-634 PRO: Microsoft Office Project Server 2007,
Managing Projects and Programs
- Individuals who are required to use Microsoft Office Project Professional
2007 and Project Web Access to create, update and manage
multiple interdependent project plans
Course Objectives:
In this course, students will learn
how to:
- Define project, program, and portfolio management
- Describe the architecture and components of the Microsoft Office EPM solution and navigate
the key interfaces of Office Project 2007, Project Server 2007, and Project Web Access
- Define the enterprise environment to support program
needs: understand
default configuration settings and apply
configuration changes
- Understand and update Project Server permissions to
support program needs
- Deliver the detailed plan of a program and optimize the program for time, cost, and
resources in order to establish a program baseline
- Define program resources and review and update the
program plan and baseline
- Manage resource profiles in the enterprise resource pool
- Track the work of resources in timesheets and progress tasks using PWA and Project 2007
- Configure Timesheets and Task Progress settings to support tracking needs
- Define and perform Earned Value Management
- Customize Project Server enterprise fields and OLAP cube settings to achieve program benefits
- Create and use Project Center, Project Detail and Data Analysis (OLAP) views
to forecast and report progress on programs
- Configure project workspaces to meet the needs of a program
- Describe the closing process for a program and propose changes to the enterprise
environment based on lessons learned from a program life cycle
- Configure Queue, Backup and other Project Server settings necessary to support the
enterprise environment
- Apply valuable tips, tricks and best practices for EPM deployment, configuration and support
