Course Description:
Students use Microsoft Office Project in this advanced workshop to learn effective reporting and analysis techniques aligning with Project Management Institute best practices. Students learn to utilize Project to effectively analyze project plans and create project views and reports.

Prerequisites:
5927A: Managing Projects with Microsoft Office Project Standard 2007 or similar experience.

Intended Audience:
This 4-hour course is designed for:

  • Individuals who are required to use Microsoft Office Project (Standard or Professional) to analyze projects and report on their status
  • Individuals who are responsible for creating views and reports
  • Individuals who want to learn tips and tricks for reporting and printing

Course Objectives:
In this course, students will learn how to:

  • Interpret and use Earned Value fields to proactively address problem areas
  • Create a macro to automate routine actions (e.g., steps to Reschedule Work)
  • Use the various Cost, Schedule and Scope views
  • Generate and customize the canned Project Reports
  • Create custom fields and value lists
  • Create custom tables and views for Planning, Updating, and Status Reporting
  • Use Copy Picture to produce snapshots of your Project views
  • Use Copy Picture Wizard to produce formatted reports in Word and PowerPoint
  • Control Print options (e.g., add header/footer, include column and row totals)
  • Update the Global.mpt via the Organizer to share customizations (e.g., views, reports, toolbars, macros) with other projects and/or all future projects
  • Use Visual Reports to extract and manipulate Project data in Visio or Excel
  • Learn to use the Compare Project Versions tool
