Course Description:
Students use Microsoft Office Project
in this advanced workshop to learn effective scheduling and
resource management techniques aligning with Project Management
Institute best practices. Students learn to utilize Project
to effectively schedule project tasks and staff resources.
Prerequisites:
5927A: Managing Projects with
Microsoft Office Project Standard 2007 or similar experience.
Intended Audience:
This 4-hour
course is designed for:
- Individuals who are required to use Microsoft Office Project
(Standard or Professional) to schedule project tasks
- Individuals who are responsible for planning duration
and work estimates for tasks
- Individuals who assign resources and analyze resource
availability and usage
Course Objectives:
In this course, students will learn
how to:
- Use the split screen and combination views to better organize and access data
- Evaluate the Triple Constraints and know a project’s primary constraint
- Level resources in various situations including:
- Using all projects vs. specific projects
- Using all resources vs. specific resources
- In a master project or program
- Considering predecessors, summary resource assignments, and priorities
- Budget and baseline the project
- Update tasks into an existing baseline without losing history
- Calculate the critical path and assess all critical tasks
- Crash the schedule to get back on track
- Use Usage views to analyze progress and address issues (gaps, overallocation)
- Use Gantt views and status indicators to evaluate progress
- Reschedule assignments via Remaining Duration and Assignment Units
- Reschedule tasks via Remaining Work and Rescheduling Uncompleted Work
