Course Description:
Students use Microsoft Office Project
in this advanced workshop to learn effective planning techniques
aligning with Project Management Institute best practices. Students learn to utilize
Project to create more effective and realistic project plans.
Prerequisites:
5927A: Managing Projects with
Microsoft Office Project Standard 2007 or similar experience.
Intended Audience:
This 4-hour course is designed for:
- Individuals who are required to use Microsoft Office Project
(Standard or Professional) to create and plan projects
- Individuals who are responsible for planning and estimating
work and duration for tasks
- Individuals who develop reusable project plans to save
as templates
Course Objectives:
In this course, students will learn how to:
- Create a template per industry best practices (e.g., standard phases, milestones)
- Configure Tools and Options to set preferences such as default task type
- Use task types to control how resources are assigned to tasks
- Forecast resource needs by assigning generic resources or skill sets to tasks
- Use lead and lag to add reality to predecessor relationships
- Use shortcuts such as Select all, Scroll To Task, Show, and Split Screen
- Set deadlines and constraints instead of manually changing dates
